• A wind mitigation survey assesses multiple aspects of your home’s wind resistance, including roof shape and covering type, hurricane strapping, roof decking and attachment, secondary water resistance, foundation attachment, window and door protection, and gable bracing. It also considers the building code and wind speed design of the structure. These inspections may qualify homeowners for ongoing insurance discounts, depending on the insurer, policy, and documented features.
• A fortified roof certification focuses specifically on the roof system, detailing the materials and installation process. It comes with a certificate valid for five years, which can be renewed once for another five years. After 10 years, it cannot be renewed again.
• While both programs can offer insurance discounts, some insurers allow you to combine these benefits, while others may limit you to one.
